Aluminum alloy melting flux is widely used in the smelting and refining production of primary and regenerated aluminum to improve the quality of aluminum alloy melt and aluminum recovery. Its main functions:
(1) Change the wettability of aluminum melt to oxide (alumina), so that aluminum melt is easy to separate from oxide (alumina), so that most of the oxide (alumina) into the flux and reduce the oxide content in the melt;
(2) Flux can change the state of oxide film on the surface of the melt, because it can break the solid and dense oxide film on the surface of the melt into fine particles, thus facilitating hydrogen in the melt to escape from the particle gap in the oxide film and enter the atmosphere;
(3) The existence of flux layer can isolate the contact between atmospheric water vapor and aluminum melt, so that hydrogen is difficult to enter aluminum melt, and can prevent melting oxidation loss;
(4) Flux can adsorb oxides in aluminum melt, so that the melt can be purified.
The removal of impurities in melt refining is mainly achieved by adsorption, dissolution and chemical reaction with oxide film and non-metallic inclusions in melt.
